And about the museum In the 60 ’s of the 20th century, the damage of his first and primer artwork has struck Abd El Rahman El-Nachar as a novice artist, leaving behind a sorrow that has long settled in his mind. This memory has been further emphasized by the loss of several works of a number of Egyptian intellect artists, some of which have acutely marked on the contemporary artistic movement in Egypt. Accordingly, devoted Nachar, the professor and the artist anticipated the danger of missing the link, of creative thoughts/principles between generations. Such an aspect has shaped a threat of losing the revolutionary pioneering attempts of the time. Just then, a dream of a private collection reservoir his evolved in Nachar mind, a place where he ensures a permanent exhibition of his works for the public as well as for budding artists. Years and years, works and creations, with the dream never departing. Obstacles and constraints, challenges and sacrifices, then a leave. If El-Nachar has passed away before seeing his own dream comes true, it is for his devoted wife, Zeinab El-Seginy and their committed daughter, Eman, who have together materialized the wish into reality. May Abdel Rahman El-Nachar now rest in peace in his eternal sleep…

Born in 1919 in Benisoueif, Hamed Owais graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Cairo to become one of the leading pioneer Egyptian artists. Owais helped create the "Group of Modern Art" in 1947, a group that rejected surrealism "because it was essentially rebellion, or an art which did not aim at the consciousness of the people at large", in his own words. Owais, a strong believer that revolutionary ideology should be reflected in art, devoted himself to Cairo ambiance of 1946 as revolutionary ideas were being shaped. Eventually, his work became the expression of his own devotion to the Revolution. Besides his inspiration and influence by Picasso, Matisse and the Fauves, Owais was also influenced by Alexandria with its abundance of color and sunshine; qualities that eventually became main characteristics of his work.

My artworks are also part of private and corporate collections in Egypt and abroad. My art is an expression of my being.. An untiring wanderer, in love with life and the living; a relentless wonderer in search for the core of humanity in this ever changing existence. In gathering my subject(s) I draw on my inner world inviting viewers to join me on a journey of discovery of the essence of being. Relying equally on my unconscious, and the world around me for inspiration, I try to employ a philosophy and approach that searches deep inside the soul. Mine and the viewer’s alike. It is a constant search for reconnection to my self awareness. Born a female myself , it primarily and intensively focuses on women as subject matter. Often caught in a space between the observed and the imagined, the physical and the metaphysical, my work aspires to transform the natural world into poetic visions and fantasies that attempt to explore the humanity of humans. View full profileSam Shendi

Egyptian born, British Sculptor, Sam Shendi, creates joyfully coloured abstractions of the human figure, which, with the subtlest of indicators, hints at the complexity of human interactions. He graduated in 1997 with a first class BA degree with honors from Helwen University of Fine Arts in Cairo. Shendi’s works reference the work of “minimalism”, the style of paring-down design elements and focusing on the mediums of steel, aluminum and paint. Some of his works are deceptively simple in form but include the qualities of metaphorical associations, symbolism and suggestions of spiritual transcendence, which is what the artist of the 60’s & 70’s were trying to avoid. His works whittle down the human figure to its simplest form enabling the exploration of the idea of the human form as a vessel. So by reducing the human body to a container or minimal shape, his creations become centred on an emotion or an expression. The simplicity is no longer the end result and devoid of meaning, but a revelation of a hidden truth and intellectual expression. Shendi’s work, therefore, takes a fine line between representation and abstraction. Whilst he appreciates the abstract form, his interest is in the human and psychological dimensions to his sculptures, stripping human nature down to its essence, and then expressing it in a sculptural language.
